Aussies Spill the Beans about their Cosmetic Surgery
Younger You Magazine Reveals Cosmetic Surgery Secrets
Cosmetic surgery is no longer a taboo subject, with 44% of Aussies who have had a surgical procedure spilling the beans to their friends (at least seven people or more), according to new research by anti-ageing website and magazine YoungerYou.com.au.
No longer kept a secret, 15% of Aussies who have undertaken cosmetic surgery say they have told absolutely everybody about it, reveals the survey of nearly 600 Aussies by Younger You in conjunction with the Cosmetic Physicians Society of Australasia (CPSA).*
Jenni Gilbert, Editor of Younger You magazine, says that as cosmetic surgery grows in popularity, people are more inclined to share their experiences with friends and family.
‘More and more celebrities are coming forward to admit that they’ve had cosmetic surgery (like we didn’t already know!), and this candidness certainly influences people to be more open about their own experiences,’ says Gilbert.
‘Only 3% of respondents have not told anybody about their cosmetic surgery, indicating that it’s now commonly accepted for people to talk about their nips and tucks,’ says Gilbert.
Some other highlights revealed by the survey include:
One in three would change their partner’s appearance
36% of respondents said they would change something about their partner’s appearance, and of those:
• 43% would change their partner’s stomach
• 42% would change their partner’s weight
• Other features that respondents would like to change about their partner include hair, wrinkles and loss of volume in their face
Boob jobs and nose jobs most popular surgical cosmetic procedures
From the 15% of respondents who have had cosmetic surgery, the most popular procedures are:
• Breast augmentation (37%)
• Rhinoplasty/nose job (27%)
• Liposuction (19%)
• Other procedures include eye lid surgery (17%), abdominoplasty/tummy tuck (14%), breast reduction (9%) and face lift (6%)
Facial skin rejuvenation treatments most popular non-surgical procedure
From the 33% of respondents who said they have had a non-surgical procedure, most are concerned with their face:
• 57% have had wrinkle (muscle relaxation) treatments such as Botox
• 51% have had dermal filler treatments such as lip and under-eye plumping
• Other popular non-surgical treatments include microdermabrasion, laser/IPL hair removal, laser/IPL removal of broken capillaries, and chemical peels
Celebrities often look worse after cosmetic treatments
Respondents agreed that the more extreme the cosmetic surgery, the worse celebrities look. The celebrities voted looking worse after their treatments include:
• Jocelyn ‘Cat Woman’ Wildenstein
• Melanie Griffith
• Joan Rivers
• Other celebrities voted include Sophie Monk, Heidi Montag, Mickey Rourke, and Pamela Anderson
Skin tone and texture is biggest concern
• 55% of respondents said that skin tone and texture (including redness, sun spots and pigmentation) was the greatest concern about their appearance
• 44% said they were most concerned with their weight
• Other top concerns included fine lines and wrinkles, arms, buttocks and thighs
The 2nd issue of Younger You Magazine goes on sale 13th April 2011 and is available in newsagents nationally and online at http://www.youngeryou.com.au for RRP $9.95.
